Texans Robbed of the Limelight
During the entirety of this regular season, aside from one Thursday night game on NFL Network, our beloved Texans are not at all one NBC’s Sunday Night Football nor Monday Night Football on ESPN, which disappoints Texans fans a plenty. In my opinion, while this Houston franchise is much younger compared to teams around the league, the Texans are more than deserving and ready for a game on prime time, be it on NBC or ESPN.
To not give this Texans team another chance to shine in the limelight is a disappointment for the fans, and a mediocre meaningless preseason game in week 1 is the only appearance on National TV this team has. The Texans team has certainly done well on MNF in recent years, they have proven their worth of such a privilege by putting up a battle in the overtime thriller against the Baltimore Ravens last year, despite being embarrassed by the Colts in a division rivalry battle in 2010
2009: We only had our bitter rivals, the Tennessee Titans, come into Houston and eke out a narrow victory, despite the Texans keeping up with, and leading the Titans during the game. Matt Shaub had a stellar game with over 300 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.
2008: Back up QB at the time, Sage Rosenfels took over for the injured Matt Shaub and led the team to victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in a Monday Night game, routing the Jags. The defense played a lights out game only allowing a field goal through three quarters of play, allowed two touchdowns in the fourth, but managed to take the ball away via forced fumbles and an interception from David Garrard.
In our brief history, the Texans have never failed to put up a great, entertaining game and bringing fans to support the team. Houston’s fans are some of the most dedicated and loyal in the entire league, with the die-hard attitude towards football in the atmosphere in Space City, it’s a crying shame and a crime to deprive this team and these fans of their prime time opportunity.
